Jonnyscavonni,

Welcome to Gentoo.

I expect it did the switch but radeondrmfb is not configured properly, so you can't see the console.
Everything else may be there correctly, you just can't see it.

Please post your
Code:
lspci -nnk
and use wgetpaste to put your kernel .config file onto a pastbin site as its too big for a post.

Jonnyscavonni,

Good. Now we know your hardware,
Code:
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Trinity [Radeon HD 7660G] [1002:9900]

we need your kernel .config file to check your kernel settings.

It appears that the Radeon HD 7000 series is a Southern Island chipset, so yoi have a choice of two kernel drivers.

Jonnyscavonni,

Code:
wgetpaste /usr/src/linux/.config
and post the link.
The file is several 1000's of lines.

You may need to install wgetpaste.

Jonnyscavonni,

Your kernel has
Code:
CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=m
CONFIG_DRM_RADEON_USERPTR=y
CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU=m
# CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU_SI is not set
so the Radeon driver will work but not the AMDGPU driver.

As you have a Southern Islands chipset, you need the CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU_SI option too.

When the kernel has to choose, I don't know which one it chooses.

Neither driver works without firmare. The firmware is provided in linux-firmware, so install that, if you don't already have it.
Fix your kernel .config, Not with a text editor, you must use one of the config tools or horrible things happen.
Then rebuild and reinstall your kernel. Reboot to test.

Jonnyscavonni,

Quote:
still not work
is not a useful error report. Did it do anything differently at all?

Code:
CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=y
CONFIG_DRM_AMD_DC=y
were both =m before, you didn't tell that :)

To use =y there you need to add the required firmware to
Code:
CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE="amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam15h.bin"

The kernel loads firmware when the firmware user is initialised. That's before root is mounted, so /lib/firmware cannot be read.

Both Radeon and AMDGPU fail to start due to missing firmware.

You can flip both
Code:
CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=y
CONFIG_DRM_AMD_DC=y
to =m, or add the two sets of firmware to the kernel.

You need all the /lib/firmware/radeon/verde* files and /lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde* files if you want both drivers.
