For some reason, I cannot update my alsa-driver. I was running gentoo-sources ( linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r8 ) and tried to update my driver. It would not. So I upgraded to gentoo-sources (linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r9). Configured the kernel and compiled it fine. And I still cannot. What is the deal? I've looked through the forums for answers, but there doesn't seem to be a clear cut solution. (Although, there are tons of problems with alsa) Can someone help me out here?
Code:

root # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge alsa-driver -u
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) media-sound/alsa-driver-1.0.0_rc2 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) alsa-driver-1.0.0rc2.tar.bz2
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking alsa-driver-1.0.0rc2.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/alsa-driver-1.0.0_rc2/work
 * This does not work with kernel 2.6 !!!
 * Please use the kernel modules instead of this the package
