|
|
hey all, i have to probs as gentoo is shuttin down, the first is as it displays all the modules and protocols that its shutting down e.g. wen it says sending kill signal, then in brackets [ok], well it says shutting down gdm, and then says fails and has [!!] after it, wats causing this problem?
and the last problem is when it gets to the point and says power off, it doesnt actually power off, where as it used to shutdown on its own, now its doin this, anybody know why? _________________ .......... i dont think its supposed to do that .......... |

Sounds like you are using kernel 2.4.22??? I had the same problem with this on my notebook. Try using the 2.6 test kernel. _________________ My Company: Hakata Consulting |

To get your machine to power down you have to enable apci in the kernel.
gdm [!!] isn't worth worrying about. |

Especially since the error is because GDM is already shut down before the init scrips can stop it, so it's actually working *correctly* in this case, and there's nothing wrong with it =) |

Not necessarily. You will also get that kind of error if it failed to start in the first place.
Isn't the login manager usually started by the xdm init script? If you have both in there, they will be conflicting. |

actually xdm script prints "Starting/Stopping gdm" if you use gdm
gdm stops itself when you click the shutdown button, therefore when the init script gets there it says "WTF gdm isnt running! [!!]"
at least, I think I'm right...
