| ok I just got gentoo all installed and everything and emerged kde but how do I actually get into kde? |

type startx, or use kdm.

The Desktop Guide in the Gentoo User Documents area details how to do all of this.
So, in conclusion, RTFM  (Its quite easy to do, so no worries)
