I would like to access Gentoo command line through a web browser. The ideal analogue is the web console in Cockpit. However, this solution has 2 aspects that I would like to avoid:

1 is that in addition to the nice web console, I get all the rest of the cockpit functionality.

2 is the focus on systemd.

Before moving on to systemd and manually building the Сockpit (with unpredictable results), I would like to know the public opinion: are there other packages that can give me a web console like in Сockpit (at localhost:1234)?

I don't know what is cockpit so I can't help you, but is there a reason why you want this on a web browser instead of using ssh?

I mean a web based monitoring and control tool:
https://cockpit-project.org/

Specifically, here I mean an in-browser terminal, which looks like this:

I am preparing virtual machines (VirtualBox) for educational purposes for other people. It is more convenient for me if the operating system in these vms would be Gentoo (so that I would not mess with other distributions). And it is more convenient for people to just start a virtual machine and enter a command in a browser. So, I am quite capable of switching to systemd and building Cockpit (it requires systemd when building) by hand even without an ebuild. This question is just chance to get a web console without switching to systemd if I can find an analogue to cockpit.

If you're already using Virtualbox, maybe it's build-in webserver (with the vboxwebsrv useflag) or rdp/vnc access provides what you need?
