BAD performance with Geforce FX 5600 !!

I just bought a new Inno Geforce FX 5600 turbo...

Everything works but it's performance isn't so great... It really depends on the game.. but in certain games I got better performance with my old geforce 2 card... My friend suggested the lack of power... because this card needs an extra power supply and I only have 250W of power.

What could be the problem... ?

could you give us more info? like a glxgears, or UT2k3 botmatch rating, or an XF86Config?
do you have DRM enabled... are you using nvidia's binary drivers or XFree-drm?

I'm not sure what the problem is but it's not power related. Power problems usually cause the computer to mysteriously reboot whenever you're doing something intensive or be unstable, there either is enough power or there isn't so it either works or doesn't but power wouldn't cause it to run slowly.

hm.. I just got this:

Warning: card comes needing to be plugged into the 4 prong power supply cord... the manufacturer recommends a minimum of 350 watt power supply. I experienced game lockup and freezing when I tried this running only 250 watts. I had to upgrade power.

that's a decent GLXgears score... i HAVE heard of components "buckling down" when there is too little power, and thus running slower... but i really don't know.
are you sure it's very slow? what's your UT2K3 botmatch score? or AA, or ET average FPS?

I just tried ut 2003 demo... very very disapointing.. I got an avarage of 20-30 fps in antalus botmatch... in AA I get around 50 and in ET it goes from 90-30... all and all a very poor performance for this card... :cry:

that doesn't seem to be extremely bad... maybe not as good as it SHOULD be, but not completly terrible... then again, i get better scores with the radeon in my sig, so maybe something is wrong?
