|
|
Hi,
I have just installed Gentoo on my system, and all was working fine until I tried to install X.
After emerging XFree and Gnome I could fire up X and get to the Gnome login but the keyboard does not work at all (the keyboard works fine outside X). If I kill X by remotely SSHing in from another machine, the keyboard comes back to life.
The keyboard is a bog standard 101 key plugged into the PS/2 port (and also a PS/2 mouse which also doesn't work - but I feel I will try to get the keyboard working first!).
I can also run up X without Gnome (twm? very ugly) and get the same behaviour.
I have tried specifying various keyboard types in xf86config but to no avail.
Anyone got any ideas
many thanks

Yeah if you put standard 101 key or anytype of config it should give you some output of some sort, but maybe your motherboard is messed up if both the mouse and keyboard don't work ... that or you may be in for a reinstall of the system. Try emerge system, world again ? That might fix something, but I really don't have any other ideas until you tell me what happens aftera remerge system |

I'm having the same problem. Funny thing is this all worked before but I swapped out harddrives and am reinstalling everything. I don't see how reemerging the system would help since the keyboard works in console, but once X is started it dies completely. I checked the xfree log and don't see any likely keyboard related errors. The reason I'm reluctant to reemerge everything is that this computer is a collection of spare parts with a 266 mhz proc and I'd rather not spend another 2 days compiling everything. |
