apache webserver per file access through .htaccess ?

Is it posible to grant access on files with .htaccess
I know how it's done for directories, but I can't find any information about per file authentication.

is this possible with .htaccess .. and if not .. is it possible with something else ?

AFAIK you can't do that with Apache.

You could always knock up a simple(ish) PHP script that could simulate this though
