Hi,

I got a gentoo router for my LAN. It worked good for a few months, then I noticed that little "50 configuration files need updating" message and used the etc-update script to get rid of it. I used it carefully, being aware that a config file might be replaced that contains necessary settings. When I rebooted the machine, the adsl-start script didn't work. It just timed out leaving me with lots of "...." (I use pppoe and T-Online is my provider). I had that before, so I just re-ran "adsl-setup". After that adsl-start worked perfectly (". Connected!"). When I rebooted the machine afterwards, the same problem occured. After another adsl-setup, it worked again...

Could anyone help me? All the config files (/etc/ppp/pppoe.conf...) seem to be in order... I need to re-start the router to same electricity. The kernel is vanilla 2.4.23.

I don't think this has something todo with it, but I get the following error during boot (dmesg):

Code:

....
00:0a.0: 3Com PCI 3c905B Cyclone 100baseTx at 0xe000. Vers LK1.1.18-ac
  ***INVALID CHECKSUM 0020*** {MAC-ADDRESS}, IRQ 10
....

Dunno, maybe I did a world upgrade or so... that's not what I'm asking, I'm asking why everytime I reboot I have to run adsl-setup before adsl-start works.

I did some research, and it seems that my /etc/ppp/pap* and chap* files (the ones keeping the adsl password) are not being saved correctly - the files contain no information after a reboot (after I did adsl-setup they contained the password)

This is strange, isn't it? What can I do about it?
