problemi con il kernel

salve ragazzi sono appena passato alla gentoo da utente debian e ho trovato qualche strana difficoltà nella compilazionme di kernel "a mano".
allora ho installato il kernel 2.4.23-rc1. tutto ok, bootta. purtroppo durante il calcolo delle dipendenze dei moduli mi da degli errori su moduli che io non carico anke perchè non possiedo. un esempi mi dice ke non trova /dev/input ma io non ho nessuna periferica di input collegata al mio USB device. inoltre se tolgo dal kernel questa opzione mi fa lo stesso errore. ho controllato anke a i file /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4 ma è vuoto... in giro per la rete ho trovato ke il problema si risolve facendo depmod -F /boot/System.map. il comando viene eseguito tranquillamente senza errore ma dopo il riavvio il problema si ripropone...
come posso fare. vorrei passare definitivamente alla gentoo e questa difficoltà a compilare i kernel a mano mi secca abbastanza...
