Hey all,
I'm having issues installing gentoo on this ancient HP server. The issues seems to be the hpsa kernel module, but I'm not sure.

At the grub screen, I'm using scandelay doscsi and doload=hpsa. This leads to a hang on boot when trying to load hpsa. Adding hpsa_allow_any=1 has no effect. Without the doload, the CD boots, but seems to hang for a long time on udev. Doing lsmod when the system boots shows that hpsa is loaded, but lsblk shows no devices.

I use gentoo quite happily on my desktop, but can't quite seem to figure out what's going on here, any ideas?

Edit: Updating the firmware fixed everything. Thanks guys!

Do you see /dev/cciss/cNpN ??

If not, is there any logical drives configured in the RAID controller BIOS?

I do not. On an older kernel, I do, however. I want to avoid having to go the route of using an older kernel, if possible. I have one logical drive, in raid 0.

Quick update,
Trying several other distros with a 5.x kernel seems to result in the same issue.
Loading an older 4.x kernel leads to the cciss driver being used, with flawless results. Kernel bug report time?

Out of curiosity I searched for P400i and found several users having issues, some managed to fix it with firmware upgrade.

Thanks, I'll take a look on HPs site for any updates.
