I am installing gentoo off the minimal boot cd and trying to download the distfiles
from the mirrors using links (they are not on the CD) but i am not able to get them all at once. Is there a way to download them in a package?

use 'emerge -f <packagename> and portage will download any package that is needed to install <packagename> to /usr/portage/distfiles. notice this won't download binary packages, but it does not sound like you want that (use wget in that case)

I don't think so;
i'm still in the install stage where the manual states you have to copy the source to /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/distfiles.
I tried to surf to the gentoo mirror and download the folder "distfiles" but it doesn't go. I don't see an other way than use a cd with a complete install.
(i've done a successfull installation using this method).

I just wanted to try the minimal approach.

I am not sure what you mean bmichaelsen

Only after the distfiles step they differentiate GRP... I think?

ok, you are using the new handbook:
things are downloaded here
Code listing 8: Downloading the necessary sources
and here:
Code listing 12: Fetching the sources
on the same page ...
/usr/portage/scripts/bootstrap.sh
should be included in the minimal tarball you unpacked in
Code listing 4: Unpacking the stage
on http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook.xml?part=1&chap=5

damnit ...the old doc had continiuos numbering ...

So, the actions performed in codelisting 12 should have the same effect as the distfile installation mentioned earlier?
I'll try that.
Thanks a lot.
