Depends on what compositor you use.
Do you want some daemon to start when a wayland session is started? Then maybe look at your display manager settings? _________________ ..: Zucca :..

I'm not sure what compositor I use in wayfire.
It so happened earlier today, I wanted to launch command 'footclient' from a wayfire desktop with no terminal open.
I couldn't find a prompt to launch a command in the upper left menu.

(Did you edit the topic title? I was sure it read wayland instead of wayfire before...)

2. ... to pop up a window which let's you run a command Right? I'm looking also one that would suit wayfire well. So preferably a gtk one.
xfce4-appfinder may be something. Pass --collapsed for it to make it show a simple window.
But there's got to be de-independent solution. There's dmenu-wayland if you like that kind on launcher.
Please post if you find one that works for you. I'm still looking for one... _________________ ..: Zucca :..

For an app launcher, I use fuzzel (by the foot dev)
For a quick cmd line/simple app launcher, I still have gmrun installed from xorg days, it's gtk2 but works fine for what it is.
There's a gtk3 version, but I haven't downloaded it to try, if it works I'll put together an ebuild. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

Zucca,
No edit, iirc.
May be the compositor:
Code: | eix wf-shell -I
[I] gui-apps/wf-shell
Available versions: 0.7.0 **9999*l {+pulseaudio}
Installed versions: 0.7.0(11:41:56 23/05/2021)(-pulseaudio)
Homepage: https://github.com/WayfireWM/wf-shell
Description: A compiz like 3D wayland compositor | Clicking on a app icon would be as good as typing a key.
Anon-E-moose,
I'm checking what fuzzel is.

it's in the wayland-desktop overlay
Edit to add: or check in my local repo, portage/gui-apps/fuzzel, just added it.
Eta2: it does require fcft, from wayland-desktop, guru or my local repo, (media-libs) and also by the guy who wrote foot/fuzzel. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel
