The biggest (or maybe it's my only) worry that i deal with in gentoo is that durring an update (or at some other time) i will over write a config file and lose important data. I'm thinking about implementing cvs for my /etc, I was wondering if any one has done this, or has any other suggestions for protecting the config files. _________________ It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish. -Mother Teresa |

portage already protects /etc through its CONFIG_PROTECT system, if its going to do any change to a configuration file, it will prompt you at the end of the merge to run etc-update and you can merge only the parts of the new configuration files that you want or tell it to totally ignore the updates. |
