i'm running xfs-sources on my laptop and i don't have any acpi or apm enabled. everything is working perfectly, even got 3d acceleration with ati mobile 7500. however, if my ac adapter is plugged in and i unplug it the system locks up and i have to hard reboot. same thing if i start up with it unplugged and then try to plug it in. do i need the power management stuff to keep it from locking? thanks. |

figured it out. i checked the manufacturer's website and found that my bios supports ACPI and suspend to disk so i decided to compile it into the kernel. after that i can plug and unplug as i please and my battery status app displays correctly. now i've got everything working: touchpad + built-in scrollbutton, wi-fi, acpi, 3D-acceleration for my ati-mobility 7500, alsa drivers... everything working perfectly.
