somthing is wrong??

when booting I have fb and splashscreen
yet after X starts and I try to return to any vc
I just have a screen filled with colors and no text or fb
just lines of colors.

I have followed the guidelines and checked all my setting twice.

Is there anything I may need to change or add.

I had these symptoms after getting my new video card (went from GeForce3 TiSomething to an FX5600) and got rid of them by switching to the NvAGP driver. You will also have problems if you're using the nvidia video drivers and the rivafb driver for the console. These don't mix well, if you're using nvidia's video drivers for X, you need to use vesafb or text mode console.

Actually, a similar thing happens on my laptop. To "fix" it, I have to turn off the LCD and turn it back on, using a hotkey combo. It appears to be a problem with recent nVidia drivers.

Is your system still running when the screen is messed up? E.g., can you hit Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return to X?

Yes I can hit ctl+alt+F7 to get back to X. and it is on my laptop w/ Nvidia Gforce 440 go.

I have found the orgin of my problem .... I can switch between VC and X just fine when
I only have one display connected yet when I have my T.V. connected via Twinview with the nvidia driver is when I get the screen with lines of color.

I solved the problem...

all you have to do if you have an Nvidia card and you want bootsplash and fb to work
while still being able to use twinview and tv out:

add this to the top of the file : /usr/portage/profiles/packages.mask
