XFree86 install problem

I am having a problem emerging xfree86. I am new to using gentoo and could be making a simple mistake.
when i run

emerge xfree

I get this error

!!! ERROR: x11-base/xfree-4.3.0-r3 failed.
!!! Function unpack, Line 281, Exitcode 2
!!! failure unpacking X430src-3.tgz

I did run

emerge sync

before xfree and this did not seem to make a difference.
any help would be great.

is that the only error message you've got?
if so, try deleting the pack and let emerge re-dl it again
