Currently gcc-config only considers gcc profiles.
But I am using clang as my primary C/C++ compiler.
Now for portage to recognise clang, one has to define those environmental variables in make.conf
Also there is no /usr/bin/(clang,clang-++) symlinks present in the current gentoo profiles.

Having a llvm/clang-config to handle default clang and gcc-config for gcc versions while a separate cc-config or eselect-cc just for handling /usr/bin/cc,c++,cpp gives a lot more control over the compiler choice
