I know it's something basic, but don't remember what/how...
When Gentoo boots, I get 'Loading Gentoo...' (and more dots appearing), but all very slow.
After all the dots, the rest of the boot suddenly happens at full/normal speed. How do I speed up the initial part as well? _________________ Greetz,

I don't know if this is the case as i have never had that happen before, but could it be a master-slave conflict on any of your ide busses? I know it boots slowly for me if I have the slave on the end and the master in the middle (of the ide cable). |

Could be... I've not had this problem before though...
But this is the first time that I install on this particular machine, an IBM T40 Thinkpad (laptop). _________________ Greetz,

this might be because you have a very large kernel (The bzImage file) so it takes a while to decompress and get it in memory. Try using modules instead of compiling in to the kernel more when appropriate . |

Nah, that's not it... I have a similar kernel on a machine with half the CPU-speed and that one goes 10 times as fast through that initial part... _________________ Greetz,
