This night, I had a series of large emerge updates running. This morning, when I came back to my machine, bluetooth was not working anymore. I testarted the machine, but still the problem remained. The list of updates included boost and icu, triggering many rebuilds.

From the logs:
Code:
# journalctl -b -u bluetooth
Feb 04 08:49:33 <machine name> systemd[1]: Condition check resulted in Bluetooth service being skipped.

I searched online and found that people advised checking whether the bluetooth kernel module was loaded. It wasn't, so I modprobed it and then could do a systemctl start bluetooth. However, my bluetooth devices are not recognized. The logs do not give me an apparent clue[/code]. Any pointers what I can try next?

Turns out that a cold boot fixed things. Likely the hardware got into a bad state and needed to be reinitialized completely.
