[SOLVED] u2f key no longer works with browser

For several years, I have successfully used a yubi key for 2 factor authentication to a website. In chrome, I used to get a popup asking for permission to access the usb device and then everything worked ok. Recently, with nothing other than standard updates, this no longer works.
I have tried falkon as well to see if it is a setting in chrome that was causing the problem. No joy.
I have just re-installed systemd with fido2 use flag enabled, this has made no difference.

kernel 5.15.23, kde plasma 5.23.5
using xorg rather than wayland

Does anyone have any thoughts?

UPDATE - Google disabled u2f support in Chrome
