|
|
Hello everyone! So, Recently my cousin sent me his laptop and told me to install a very lightweight linux distro in it, So I decided to choose Gentoo BUT being a Gentoo user myself I know how time-consuming the install itself is and recently I have been struggling to fit everything into my routine so I can't do a manual Gentoo install! Is there any install scripts to at least install base Gentoo without a DE? Thanks in advice!
Edit: I had to manually install it

What do you think it's the most time consuming task? I don't think it's so much different than Arch.
Now that we have a binary kernel everything is a matter of minutes. |

The whole installation is time consuming by a lot, A install script would help so it would automate everything so I could bring the laptop to work and just leave it installing Gentoo while I do my job... |

enhaced,
Welcome to Gentoo.
A Gentoo install script would be really complex. e.g. I have root in LVM on raid5, there are simpler ways to do it but it just grows arms and legs.
That's mostly why Gentoo has had a number of installers over the years and they have all become unmaintained.
You need to design your install. _________________ Regards,

Define "lightweight." "very lightweight" is almost always accompanied by difficult to use by non-technical people.
On a tangent, I think this is a very bad idea. Who is going to maintain the Gentoo installation after you give him back the laptop? Give him something with a competent GUI updater. That will avoid frustrating the two of you. _________________ Andy Figueroa
