which has been worked around by 3.0.1 binpackaging & removal prior to 3.1.0 rebuild.

I'd have wished to know whether install stage could have been recovered after 3.0.1 removal rather? Thus avoiding 3.1.0 rebuild...
But was to lazy to search how...

IIRC, I think you're reporting a # situation where both blender slots can't be installed with USE flags that would generate /usr/bin/cycles for each.
Talking about single slot upgrade here.
Don't recall 3.0.0-r1 -> 3.0.1-r4 having such a issue.
Thks 4 ur attention, interest & support.

As I read the ebuilds, 3.0.x and 3.1.x are different SLOTs, so the problem applies once again. 3.0.0 -> 3.0.1 would probably have been the same SLOT, and the problem would not apply.
