|
|
First off, good morning to you all, new here (had Gentoo before but never wanted to bother people with my problems)
I have reinstalled Gentoo lately after changing my GPU from a 2080 to a 6900XT.
As the title implies, I have a few questions about the drivers and the configuration for games and Wayland.
For Wayland, I noticed that if I only had "amdgpu radeonsi" for the GRAPHICS flag, I would have abysmal performances. However if I use "amdgpu radeonsi radeon" everything works perfectly. Is this a normal occurrence?
For games, I have the following issue: Source games and a select few other Linux native title crash immediately on launch. I've looked at the troubleshooting pages for steam and games on the Gentoo wiki, for example TF2 where it asks me to not build app-crypt/p11-kit with the abi_x86_32 flag...
Ive tried the troubleshooting methods but it didn't fix my issue.
I'm honestly just wondering if maybe, my USE flags are the problem and/or using genkernel might be problematic with the latest AMD card?
Thanks in advance for reading my post and helping me out. I'm no advanced user but I'm willing to try and understand why it doesn't work and fix it. |

Yes, I have 9700XT and I also have VIDEO_CARDS="amdgpu radeon radeonsi" in make.conf.
There's and ebuild (or wiki page?) that tells you to do so. |

I've had no problem with wayland + AMDGPU and native games. I have played some from gog, but none from steam.
As said above: wiki is your friend.
If you launch game via terminal does it produce any error messages?
Also, welcome to Gentoo. :) _________________ ..: Zucca :..

Isn't "radeon" flag for older models ?
I'm on Vega and I always used just "amdgpu radeonsi", no problems, except some native Steam games were crashing on start or during the game, but with Proton the same games were fine. (Steam via flatpak)
Though, I don't think that has anything to do with having "radeon" use flag on or off. |

I just checked, the radeon useflag should not affect a system with a modern GPU.
The only package that just has a radeon and no radeonsi or amdgpu useflag is "mesa-amber", I don't know what that is tbh.
What is going on here?

Actually, it can, or at least it did. Look at this: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Dota-2-Vulkan/issues/397 _________________ Haters gonna hate,
