Just purchased a Compaq Presario 2800 series. emerging system as I type this. Just curious if the 845MP and Radeon Mobility 7500 are supported somewhat. I figure ill give it a shot, but if there is any known problems with the newer laptops and you know how to save me time, then let me know :).

Check out the forum Search page. I turned up this, this and this page regarding the 2800.

This was the only thing I found regarding the Mobility.

Hi!
I'm running Gentoo on a IBM Thinkpad A31 - this has a Radeon Mobility M7 LW (at least, that's what lspci tells me).
I've been told that it's the same as the Radeon Mobility 7500. The pci-id = Class 0300: 1002:4c57.

X works like a charm using the "radeon" driver 1400x1050. Remember to build & modprobe the agpgart kernel module.

CU,
Edwin

No, mainly because I don't have an appropriate external monitor

Well, I thought the Radeon M7 wasn't capable of doing dual-screen - other than showing the *same* picture on both, I mean, but apparently it is.
Under X that sort of stuff is handled by the Xinerama extension. Don't have any experience with it, though...

seems like xinerama is only for those with 2 graphic cards
i only have the mobility radeon 7500 card in the laptop

in linux i can get it to show same picuter on both screens if i set up the computer to use both lcd and crt... but with ugly resolution on the crt screen ;(
in windows with the ati drivers i can use both screens with different resolutions...

dont know if the ati-drivers in portage have support for m7/radeon 7500

i will continue to search the web/forums about this and will post again if i find anything interesting =)
