Cheers.

This will actually go live quick once I get around to it (since I already did the hard part).
Right now though, I'm simultaneously working on three support utilities but I'm almost done (famous last words, I know). _________________ Dantrell B. |

After having issued emerge --declean, revdep-rebuild, emerge @preserved-rebuild I can report a clean state of the install with combined plasma + gnome42 profile.
Great job dantrell ! :obeisant:
PS. I am at your service whenever you'd like to test gnome 43 once you have recovered from the actual support!
PPS. I'd happily study your summarized causes of the build failures, |

While I was able to switch to the gnome 41 profile and emerge successfully, selecting gnome 42 and emerging dependencies results in gnome-desktop-43 getting pulled in by a few packages.
Any ideas?
And thanks for the great work! |

First, determine is why it wants GNOME Desktop from Gentoo instead of from the project overlays (never mind that it wants the wrong version):
- Sync up (as some changes I was sitting on may help with automatic dependency resolution).
- Check /etc/portage for any GNOME packages provided by the project that are being unmasked in Gentoo (this is almost always a mistake unless you know what you are doing). Make sure you are not misinterpreting requests for stabilization as requests to unmask Gentoo's version.
- See what your @world update says.
If it's still blocking, you have quite few options such as being more explicit with your @world update command:
Code: | emerge --ask --oneshot --update --deep --changed-use --with-bdeps=y @world net-libs/webkit-gtk:4.1::dantrell-gnome gnome-base/gnome-desktop:3::dantrell-gnome-42 gnome-base/gnome-desktop:4::dantrell-gnome-42 |
or (less optimal) removing all the packages complaining (lines 145-149 & lines 162-163), optionally installing the project versions first (line 145 & line 162) and then checking @world again. _________________ Dantrell B. |

That did the trick! Guess I got a bit trigger happy with unmasking...
Thank you! |

Since GNOME 44 (alongside breaking changes) has started hitting the main tree, I cleared some time to catch up a bit.
First, the breaking changes have already been accounted for on my end. It'll go live for the latest GNOME release version currently provided by the project. The other release versions will be updated on schedule unless I'm notified that a particular version should be updated ahead of time.
GNOME 43 basically only needs a QA check before it's pushed live. I plan to finish this over the weekend.
While doing that, I will also account for GNOME 44 so it will likewise only need a (additional) QA check and (additional) weekend before going live.
Immediately after these two are done, I will automate the move to EAPI 8 and deal with any stragglers on a per-ebuild basis. _________________ Dantrell B. |
