Let me paint you a picture:
Booted machine yesterday and ran "emerge -U world" to have the following packages updated (from emerge.log): Code: | 1071288665: >>> emerge (1 of 9) sys-apps/man-pages-1.64 to /
1071288710: >>> emerge (2 of 9) media-libs/libsdl-1.2.6-r3 to /
1071288868: >>> emerge (3 of 9) app-text/ghostscript-7.07.1-r1 to /
1071289159: >>> emerge (4 of 9) net-ftp/curl-7.10.7 to /
1071289249: >>> emerge (5 of 9) net-print/foomatic-filters-20031018 to /
1071289272: >>> emerge (6 of 9) net-print/foomatic-db-engine-20031018 to /
1071289308: >>> emerge (7 of 9) net-print/foomatic-db-20031018 to /
1071289365: >>> emerge (8 of 9) net-print/foomatic-20031018 to /
1071289383: >>> emerge (9 of 9) sys-apps/debianutils-1.16.7-r4 to / | Today I boot the machine to find that fonts in Sylpheed-claws, Xine-ui and probably others are mangled - seemingly selecting a tiny default, bitmapped font in place of the Helvetica requested. There were no changes in the application font settings. There were no human changes to the three different sets of font configurations: XF86Config, XftConfig, or /etc/fonts/*. I've tried rebuilding the font cache (fc-cache) with no change. I 've tried reverting to the old version of Ghostscript, which is only one with related fonts AFAICT, but this made no difference.
Can anybody shed light on the problem package here?
Fonts really are the downfall of X... _________________ Cheers,
