I figured out that i need to partition my drives first in order to do everything else(I am spoiled by mandrake and SuSE doing it for me). I want to make a dual boot, but when I go to create the boot partition, it says Code: | Partition 1 is allready defined. Delete it before re-adding it. |
I havent made any partitions, because I just made 9gb of free space with Partition Magic! Could this be talking about the windows boot partition? If so, how do I remove it/edit it so I can dual boot and continue with the gentoo installation? |

Please run
(if hda is the disk you want to partition) to look at your partition table. If you are not sure what to do next, better post it here. |

Only partition on the system as of now is a Tpye 7 partition, or my NFTS partition. The rest of the drive is free space. |

Hmm... What tool are you using to create the partition?
<edit>
Oh, and what partition number has your ntfs partition? Perhaps you are trying to assign the same partition number to the new partition? When I try to do that with fdisk, I get the same error as you.

Yes, the NFTS partition is partition 1 and is the boot partition. Can I make the linux boot partition #2? teh install guide says to make it one. I dont want to delete my NFTS, I am planning to set up a dual boot. |

Ah, i think you are confusing active partition and linux boot partition here. The install guide means by boot partition a small volume where you store your kernel and bootloader conf. It is called boot partition because it is mounted at /boot in your root fs. You should create a small volume (about 50MB) for this purpose, it does not have to be partition number one. Don't worry about active partitions, the bootloader grub will take care of this. |
