I have a gaming laptop that I am not using anymore and decided to use as a server, it has 8gb of RAM and a GTX 1050 4GB, sometime during the installation i had a revelation, could I use the VRAM as swap? I would have 4gb of super fast swap right? Not so fast, first i came upon this:https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Swap_on_video_RAM
I tried to use mtd and slram as it seemed the most minimalistic approach. I installed the modules and all, but there is a problem: lspci only detects a 256M region (which I think is the VRAM taken from RAM) and I can map it and use it as swap perfectly, but if I go any further, though I know I have available 4gb, the kernel shits itself.
Any help going beyond 256M would be appreciated.[/url][/u] |
