Hi

I'v installed Gentoo on my m2400n, but first i installed Win2k.
I used Lilo to make a boot manager and it worked fine, only my gentoo wouldn't boot because my boot section was Win95 fat32. Win2k worked fine.
Then i changed my boot section into Linux and i runned lilo again but now win2k and linux won't boot.

What can i do??? I really need win2k for my work!

and what is the filesystem command in fstab for win95 fat32.

Thankz

I had Windows on /dev/hda1 but I made new partitions for /boot, swap and root later on the disk. Then I just told "grub" to look at that later boot partition. "grub" can still start windows OK just by pointing it to the correct partition. Not sure about lilo - no experience there.

To sort out your current problems, a "SmartBoot" diskette might be helpful.

this is my fdisk

Disk /dev/hda: 40.0 GB, 40007761920 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4864 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
[code]
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 637 5116671 b W95 FAT32
/dev/hda2 638 4864 33953377+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hda5 638 1274 5116671 83 Linux
/dev/hda6 1275 1882 4883728+ b W95 FAT32
/dev/hda7 1883 1911 232911 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda8 1912 2548 5116671 b W95 FAT32
/dev/hda9 2549 4864 18603238+ c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
[/code]
I think the problem is the ext'd on 2?

My win2k install is lost i think?

in grub is says

[code]
grub> root (hd0,
Possible partitions are:
Partition num: 0, Filesystem type is fat, partition type 0xb
Partition num: 4, Filesystem type is reiserfs, partition type 0x83
Partition num: 5, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0xb
Partition num: 6, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x82
Partition num: 7, Filesystem type is fat, partition type 0xb
Partition num: 8, Filesystem type is fat, partition type 0xc

[/code]

so no 1 is gone

I don't think your 1st partition is lost - in grub terminology partition 0 is /dev/hda1. If you use a "SmartBootManager" diskette and boot with that, you could select hda1 and see if windows boots.

My fdisk information looks like this;

Code:

Disk /dev/hda: 60.0 GB, 60011642880 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7296 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot    Start       End    Blocks   Id  System
/dev/hda1   *         1      1824  14651248+   7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda2          1825      7296  43953840    f  Win95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hda5          1825      2834   8112793+   b  Win95 FAT32
/dev/hda6   *      2835      2843     72261   83  Linux
/dev/hda7          2844      2974   1052226   82  Linux swap
/dev/hda8          2975      4280  10490413+  83  Linux
/dev/hda9          4281      5978  13639153+  83  Linux

hda1 is windows C:\
hda2 is windows D:\
hda5 is the extended partition
hda6 is /boot
hda8 is swap
hda8 is /
hda9 is another linux partition
