I'm trying to install wine and I noticed that some packages are blocked. When I looked into emerge it says stuff about systemd??
Code: |
$ sudo emerge --ask app-emulation/wine-vanilla

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

Hi
Plz would you post your
emerge --info?
Code: |
It seems you do NOT have universal USE="elogind -systemd" in make.conf
Add them and please rebuild @world
emerge -uDUav @world
emerge -av wine-vanilla
|
Yes thats it.
How can you run kde without desktop USE flags?
Did you add them your self? _________________

Ok you are using a hardened profile but your output is a mess between openrc and systemd.
Do you have systemd installed?
Or USE="systemd" anywhere in /etc/portage?

I know it's a mess, it's my first gentoo ever and I use openrc. I installed KDE from it's profile and then switched back to hardened profile.
And my emerge -info:

Plz see the comment of @pietinger at this thread
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1151363-highlight-.html
on how to combine profiles.
According to your emerge --info you DO have USE="elogind"
Did you just add it?
Ah ok you switched again now you have
Code: |
default/linux/amd64/17.1/desktop/plasma
|
Before
Quote: |
and my profile selected for [3] default/linux/amd64/17.1/hardened (stable) *
|
Plz switching between profiles like that doesnt seem proper.
Best to combine the hardened and the plasma profile as indicated above. _________________

Ok plz make sure in make.conf you have USE="...........elogind -systemd.............."
Then run
Code: |
egrep -r "systemd|elogind" /etc/portage/package.use
|
and commnet out all resulting files.
Then
plz rebuild@world and emerge wine.
For the time being just stay at plasma profile until you are able to combine profiles. _________________

Pleas add USE="X" in make.conf and try again.
But you do have X in make.conf
Again
Code: |
grep -r "X" /etc/portage/package.use
|
And remove any USE"-X"
Did you switch again to plain hardened?
Also do as @fedeliallalinea advised
systemd-utils is an openrc package. _________________

Okay did what @fedeliallalinea said (did not know I can use it with openrc)
and already yes added X in my make.conf and I'm already in KDE plasma profile now and output of code:

just that is the problem
Code: |
/etc/portage/package.use/00cpu-flags:>=dev-qt/qtgui-5.15.4 -X
|
Comment it out plz.
Also my mistake the correct grep would be
Code: |
grep -r " X " /etc/portage/package.use
|

Yup I just saw it and I removed "-" but left X out, do I need to completely comment out?
UPDATE: nvm commented it out _________________ Linux is only free if your time has no value.

It makes no difference since you have it in make.conf
USE flags have a hierarchy
Code: |
profile -> make.conf->package.use
|
make.conf can override USE flags set by profile and package.use can override both. _________________

NOTE: Use the '--verbose-conflicts' option to display parents omitted above
It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

I spent my last 2 years in linux but emerge makes me feel I just landed in linux |
I see some systemd entries in there, hmm _________________ Linux is only free if your time has no value. |

Ok we are improving
For start lets do
Code: |
USE="-gpm" emerge -1av sys-libs/ncurses
emerge -uDUav --with-bdeps=y --keep-going --backtrack=100 @world
|

Wait, we are?? I was about to nuke it and start again
and it works, how did you do that, I really want to learn more about portage _________________ Linux is only free if your time has no value. |

Ok Good.
Now
when the update finishes
plz run
Code: |
emerge -a --depclean
emerge -av app-emulation/wine-vanilla
|
If that finishes successfully then we need to start with the profile-combinig as @pietinger advised.
And you can then learn more about decoding portage's output from many knowledgeable people here. _________________

I will thanks so much for help <3
about profile combine I'm still a bit confused about it but I will look up more into it
Yes people here are very nice actually but it's just I'm afraid to ask so many and drive people away and give the mindset of that I do not look up first before post here _________________ Linux is only free if your time has no value. |
