I've installed freespace2 using the installer from http://icculus.org/~ravage/freespace2/ and it worked just fine on the install, but when I go to run it I get this error
Code:
Xlib:  extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: (src/stats/scoring.cpp:237): Error parsing 'rank.tbl'
Error code = 5.

any ideas?

I get this error as well, does installing from the cvs fix this?

Okie! i fixed it! I had none of the .vp files within my freespace 2 directory so i went on my windows box and installed freespace 2 and copied over all the .vp files now it runs, altho really choppy, i still get the

Code:
Xlib:  extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0".

But i believe that is complete`ly normal. but now another question i ran the nv_check.sh script and it says

Code:
The kernel device /dev/nvidia1 does not exist, is not a device,
or does not have the proper permissions set.  This dev entry should
have been created when you created the kernel module.  If you
compiled the module by hand, you may have to create this device
manually (major number 195, minor number 1).  After this is done,
please run this script again.

What does that mean and how do i fix it. in /dev i have nividia0 but not nvidia1, any suggestions?

Do what the nvidia script told you to do.

Quote:
Installation of the NVIDIA_kernel package will also create the /dev files:
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 195, 0 Feb 15 17:21 nvidia0
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 195, 1 Feb 15 17:21 nvidia1
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 195, 2 Feb 15 17:21 nvidia2
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 195, 3 Feb 15 17:21 nvidia3
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 195, 255 Feb 15 17:21 nvidiactl

That is from the Nvidia Readme and Intstall Guide. As i checked it seems when I emerged the kernel pakage it did not create the dev files like it is supposed to and I do not know how to create them, any help please?

these commands will create the devices you do not have
Code:
mknod /dev/nvidia1 c 195 1
mknod /dev/nvidia2 c 195 2
mknod /dev/nvidia3 c 195 3
mknod /dev/nvidiactl c 195 255
