After I call halt, or use the gnome GUI to shut down my computer everything seems to proceed fine. The terminal says that I am entering run level 0 and starts informing me of processes that are being shut down, file systems being mounted and remounted etc.
Then its done and finally says
However, nothing happens. It just site patiently not responding. My brother's Gentoo box shuts the machine off at this point. Redhat used to shut _my_ machine off. My gentoo box at work shuts down at this point. What gives? Does anyone know what's going on here? Thanks.

I think it has to be enabled in the kernel
In make menuconfig under general setup This option has to be enabled in the kernel (i'm kind of guessing)
Use real mode APM BIOS call to power off _________________ http://brighteyedcomputer.com |
