Hi, just trying reinstall old x86 notebook with systemd as init.
After compiling kernel 5.18.6 and rebooting i get this error from grub2:
error couldn't find suitable memory target

I made it without initrd. Is initrd needed for systemd or is there another mistake?

Thanks in advance.

If you didn't get to the kernel, it's clearly not a systemd issue... (and no, you do not need initramfs for systemd, unless you have a custom nonstandard disk/partition setup which then even openrc may need one.)

So there's another mistake. Chances are something is too big, how big is your kernel, do you have a phantom initramfs somewhere specified by your grub config by mistake, what specific hardware you're using (abnormal memory map?), ... ?

How are you specifying your grub.cfg for booting?
