|
|
I'm on Sway and I'm using Mako as notification daemon, daemon works great and I had no problems with it, "notify-send" works etc.
Now, I emerged Thunderbird, been awhile since I've used it last time, and I've noticed that it uses it's own notifications, which is just a new window.
In Preferences there's an option to use the system notification, which is enabled by default, but for some reason it's still using it's own.
I tried to google it and solve it, but no luck, any ideas ? |

Never mind, solved by installing Mailbox Alert addon, great addon btw, just what I needed.
Still curious though where the problem is with no addon, is it notification daemon, wayland somehow or Thunderbird. |

I think that they use native notifications only in the latest versions 91+ _________________ UM780, 6.1 zen kernel, gcc 13, profile 17.0 (custom bare multilib), openrc, wayland |

No problems
I made an issue on Mako's github page, tried to find out more about this, but I gave up eventually, luckily I found out one addon which actually works with 91+ versions and the dev is using linux and ofc notify-send works |

Thunderbird bumped to v115 and Mailbox alert addon stopped working, author said that there's a new API now and it will be very hard to make it work.
Anyway, I tried to figure out where the problem is with this and I wasn't able to find a solution.
I still use Sway and Mako, nothing really changed there, dbus is running in session (I'm not using system bus) , so I tried to switch to system bus and let the dbus start mako daemon (in dbus session you have to start it manually) , daemon is working, but that didn't solve the thunderbird problem (still it doesn't use system notification)
Seems to be the Gentoo thing and that I'm missing something here in the configuration somehow, because it seems to be working in other distros.
Any help much appreciated. |

Just for future reference; you need libnotify installed for native notifications, it's not pulled as dependency automatically. |
