|
|
Guys,
I have two computers (one laptop and one desktop) The laptop is strickly XPpro and the desktop is a dual boot xppro/gentoo box.
I also use a wireless access point wireless router in order to allow both computers to share my cable modem.
My printer is an HP unit that allows copying, scanning, and printing. It is connected via usb to my desktop.
My laptop prints on this printer too via the network set up between the two
Now, what I am hoping to accomplish is when running gentoo on my desktop I would like to still be able to print from my laptop.
Is this possible? |

To print to linux from windows, you'll need samba server.
Here is a link to the gentoo printing documentation showing how to set up your samba to serve your printer.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/printing-howto.xml#doc_chap7
If you need anything beyond this, let me know. _________________ Open-mindedness is painful... |

Excellent.
Thank you very much, undrwater.
Ill admit that I didnt research SAMBA that much before I made this post, but i always thought it was designed to do the opposite of what I wanted ie from gentoo-->windows printing.
Thanks again, I will work on it tonite.

Well, I have now set up a few things that i needed. ie sound, cups, and my mouse now works.
I have been playing with Samba trying to get it to work and I cant seem to connect it gentoo (print server) from my win box.
What files should I post in order to to give you an idea of what I have going on.
Thanks,
Al |

/etc/smb.conf would be a start...also be sure you have the samba daemon running too. I believe that it's
but you'll have to double check that.
Also, if you're still having problems, post what you have already tried...and what seems not to work. _________________ Open-mindedness is painful... |
