|
|
During the boot process, grub has an edit option to change the configuration before continuing to boot.
refind does not appear to have a comparable feature. The Insert/F2 option presents an empty window into which text could be added, but that doesn't change the current settings.
Is refind really that limited? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo?

Yes. Afaik pressing F2 only gives you the option to edit the currently selected boot entry kernel command line.
What exactly are you looking for? rEFInd isn't scriptable like grub. _________________ ..: Zucca :..

With grub, it presents the whole stanza for the boot entry and allows you to edit whatever you want (or at least that's how I remember it).
With refind, after pressing F2 twice, I'm presented with an empty window, which means I can't edit the current settings. I presume additions could be added in the empty window, but that doesn't help with modifying it.
I was having problems with a new kernel, so I wanted to manually edit some of the settings and discovered that it appears not possible. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

OK, sometimes I'm just slow.
A new kernel wouldn't boot. That's when I noticed the problem.
While trying to figure out what went wrong with the new kernel, I eventually noticed that the actual problem was... wait for it... there was no entry in refind.conf.
I posted this thread AFTER I fixed the issue, but I'm only now just realizing the empty window was accurately reflecting the configuration.
*sigh*
On the plus side, due to a case of mistaken identity, I get to figure out why the new initrd isn't work as well as the old one. Especially fun when results appear inconsistent.
Thanks. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
