I'm just doing the first few steps of the newb installation guide and i get my network up and going, and when i ping yahoo i get 100% packet loss...whats wrong? am i behind a router? Yes. did i try it w/o a router? yes. did it work? no |

Could you ping the router? Do you use dhcp? What network card do you use and what modules are loaded (do 'lsmod' and list the output here) What does 'ifconfig --all' say? |

do you have any ip address (ifconfig)? can you ping your loopback address (127.0.0.1)? can you ping your gateway? can you ping your dns servers? do you have dns servers specified in /etc/resolv.conf? do you have a route specified (netstat -r)? |

Did you try to ping any ip address? Did it work? If so, the problem is with /etc/resolv.conf
add a line like this
nameserver ip.for.dns.server
and it should work. |
