|
|
When I want to start playing a song in xmms for the first time after reboot it needs like
one minute to start playing.
I have a K7N2 delta botherboard with onboard soundcard.
I am using alsa and the snd-intel8x0 sound module.
The problem is not happening when I am doing the same with Kaboodle.
Whats wrong with my system ?
Thanks. |

Probably your soundcard is still in use. For example when you use KDE, The KDE soundsystem probably is still using it. If you use something else probably the same problem.
I had the same problem in KDE, till I deactivated the sound system in KDE. This means that KDE isn't making sound at all anymore, (don't need it) but the soundcard is ready.
So either you have to make you soundcard free, or you have to force XMMS to use the sound system which is using the soundcard.
If you have something else than KDE, my best guess is one of the programs started is using it.
Just figure out which one... |

could be diffrent output used, try to emerge alsa-xmms (or xmms-alsa, I can never remember).
also, if your using alsa, try removing /etc/asound.state and recreating it. |

I emerged that xmms alsa plugin and set
Options --> Preferences --> Output Plugin: ALSA 0.9 output plugin [libALSA.so]
Still have the same problem ... hehe |

My guess would be that you have the aRts sound server running with default settings to autosuspend if idle for 60 seconds (Control Panel -> Sound and Multimedia -> Sound System). Hence aRts has the sound device until it's autosuspended at which time XMMS can gain access, whether XMMS is using OSS or ALSA plugins.
The reason Kaboodle doesn't pause is because it's a part of kdemultimedia (from what I could see) and would default to use aRts, since that's the default KDE sound server.
A couple of options:
You could stop using aRts and leave xmms alone, would probably stop sounds in KDE (and Kaboodle).
You could emerge xmms-arts and use that plugin so XMMS outputs to aRts.
You could start xmms with the command "artsdsp xmms" (may need to set the output plugin in XMMS to OSS). _________________ May contain traces of nuts. |

They're very similar, but take a closer look at the posts....
You said you installed xmms-ALSA, the plugin you want to use is xmms-ARTS.
Alternatively, you can just type this at the command prompt:
You may need to select the OSS output plugin.
Both of those methods should work. _________________ May contain traces of nuts. |
