Many here and on the internet generally have been praising Linux on Supermicro hardware.
I'm about to buy a used server with X10Ri-T motherboard.
Do people here have any problems with Supermicro hardware?
Anything special I need to take into account? Like enabling/disabling some special kernel options?

Well, except for the one that caught on fire... Just kidding. It did happen but there was shipping damage: one crushed corner on the motherboard. Happened within moments of the first power-up and the vendor (and insurance) took care of it.
I've had excellent luck with SuperMicro motherboards over probably 5 different custom builds. I'm particularly fond of their dual Xeon offerings. I can't recall any hardware that was tricky to configure.

Hi Zucca,
I must say, I have had many different server vendors (SuperMicro, HPE, HP, Dell and IBM). All worked well with Gentoo. There were some small hacks necessary, but not impossible to solve.
Nearly all of them were some time on the market, HPE DL380 Gen9 was the one with the lowest in market time. So if you take the newest hardware, you might have issues for around 6 months.
On the other side, if you look at consumer laptops and tablets, there you will have more difficulty to impossible issues (I still try to get a Chuwi Hi8 to work with Gentoo).

Hi. Thanks for the answers.
I eventually got somewhat decent offer for a Fujitsu 2U server with 12 hard drive hot swap slots. Its power consumption and noise levels are low, so I may be able to keep it inside our home.
I had originally planned to place the server to a separate outbuilding.
Oh well. I'll start planning more when I have done initial tests with it. _________________ ..: Zucca :..
