|
|
I'm having problems getting sound (ALSA) working on my machine- its worked before, but I can't get it to work on this installation.
I've followed through the ALSA installation guide, and it goes wrong when I try to unmute the various channels:
Code: |
# amixer set Master 100 unmute
amixer: Unknown playback setup 'unmute'..
|
The same occurs when I try to unmute the PCM channel.
When I try and run the ncurses interface - alsamixer, the Master and PCM interfaces appear to be at 100, and I don't think they are muted, but then again, when I press 'm', nothing happens- I can't mute/unmute them.
Anyone have any ideas where I'm going wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help. |

Pressing M should display and remove a "M' at the top of the mixer bar for the mixer you are unmuting. It should also change the status at the top left to "off" _________________ ---Atoz |

Cheers for the reply.
It appears that the Master and PCM mixers have been set at 100, and are not muted.
Anyone have any idea why I'm still not getting any sound?
Why I type lsmod, I'm getting loads of sound modules loaded..
Thanks in advance for any help one again. |

If it helps I'm running (or at least trying to run) ALSA 0.98 with gentoo-sources-2.4.22-r1 |

What type of soundcard do you have and what are you running to test the sound. alsa-0.9.8 seems to have troubles with SBlaster Live! (emu10k1) cards. You may want to try to upgrade to alsa-1.0.0-rc2. Also, be sure that you at least have emerged alsa-driver, alsa-utils, alsa-lib, and alsa-oss. Prior to emerging, make sure you have "alsa" and "oss" listed in your USE flags in the /etc/make.conf file. You may have to re-emerge alsa-driver to ensure it is compiled with oss support.
Use the "emerge --verbose -s alsa" command (su'd as root) to see what alsa ebuilds are available and which ebuilds and version you have installed.
I hope this helps,

Does anyone know why the unmute parameter is getting this error at the command line? Just curious - it happened to me but my sound is working fine (apart from KDE not liking to share it with other apps). _________________ Allan
