So, in the last 12 hours or so I've finished a new but
troubling gentoo install, but it boots, has network, etc.
though it was tougher than usual getting it done.
now, something new has cropped up when installing
major packages, postgresql in this case, but seen in a
couple of others...
Code: |
>>> Recording dev-db/postgresql in "world" favorites file...
* Messages for package acct-group/postgres-0-r1:
* Adding group 'postgres' to your system ...
* - Groupid: 70
* Messages for package acct-user/postgres-0-r1:
* Adding user 'postgres' to your system ...
* - Userid: 70
* - Shell: /bin/sh
* - Home: /var/lib/postgresql
* - Groups: postgres
* - GECOS: added by portage for postgres
* Updating comment for user 'postgres' ...
* - Comment: PostgreSQL program user
|
what are those 'acct-group' and 'acct-user' lines?
am I supposed to be seeing these?
are they the new thing?
or
have I mucked up this gentoo installation in some particular manner?
any ideas?
thanks

mjbjr,
Things that can run as daemons usually hove their own user and group IDs.
The acct-group/* and acct-user/* packages are Gentoos way of creating and destroying these entries.
They make and remove entries in /etc/group and /etc/passwd.
Yes, its normal. _________________ Regards,

those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail. |
