Whenever I try startx, it would not be able to open the i965 driver. It says it's not there but I checked the directory and it's there. It also brings up errors with xkb.

File /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev is provided by x11-misc/xkeyboard-config.

Are the packages below installed on your machine?
  1. x11-apps/setxkbmap
  2. x11-misc/xkeyboard-config
Does the file /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev exist?

n2kia,

Welcome to Gentoo Forums !

Ignore the error about your graphics card (it is normal); you have a problem with your keyboard.

You are missing in your make.conf this line:
Code:
INPUT_DEVICES="libinput"

After this do an "emerge -uNDv @world" and start again X11. What happens then ?

Thank you, I emerged both packages and that solved that issue.

Unfortunately, I still cannot startx due to the whole AIGLX dlopen issue...

I added the INPUT_DEVICES="libinput" line to my make.conf, ran the emerge command as you said, and startx still failed unfortunately.

This looks good ! :D (Really)

Your xorg server starts correct and ends immediately ... a sign for an empty .xinitrc. See more here:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Xorg#X_server_starts_and_dies_unexpectedly_with_no_errors

So, my only question would be: With which user you have started X11 ?

I'm running startx from my user, lain. It's in the wheel, audio, video, and users groups. There is a .xinitrc file in it's home folder.

Code:
#!/bin/sh

userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
usermodmap=$HOME/.Xmodmap
sysresources=/etc/X11/xinit/Xresources
sysmodmap=/etc/X11/xinit/Xmodmap

# merge in defaults and keymaps

if [ -f $sysresources ]; then

    xrdb -merge $sysresources

fi

if [ -f $sysmodmap ]; then
    xmodmap $sysmodmap
fi

if [ -f "$userresources" ]; then

    xrdb -merge "$userresources"

fi

if [ -f "$usermodmap" ]; then
    xmodmap "$usermodmap"
fi

# start some nice programs

if [ -n "`/etc/X11/chooser.sh`" ]; then
 command="`/etc/X11/chooser.sh`"
else
 failsafe="yes"
fi

if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ] ; then
 for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/?* ; do
  [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
 done
 unset f
fi

# dwm
exec dwm &

if [ -n "$failsafe" ]; then
 twm &
 xclock -geometry 50x50-1+1 &
 xterm -geometry 80x50+494+51 &
 xterm -geometry 80x20+494-0 &
 exec xterm -geometry 80x66+0+0 -name login
else
 exec $command
fi

Is it possible that the exec dwm line is in the wrong spot?

I tried running startx as root but that didn't work either...

Sorry, I am no dwm expert. Our Gentoo Wiki says:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Dwm#Starting

Do you have OpenRC or systemd ? If OpenRC do you have elogind in your boot runlevel ? (check with: "rc-update")

When xinitrc returns, Xorg returns as well:
Code:
(II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.

Note "exec" replace the current shell with the given command.
Code:
exec dwm

# This will not run.
...

If you want to run something after dwm, run "dwm", without "exec".
