With the breadth of knowledge that tends to accumulate around this forum i'm hoping someone may know if the framebuffer resolution modes and settings have changed in the 2.6 kernels... i'm going to keep testing a bit to see if i can restore 1024x768 32bit color framebuffer in my 2.6 kernel i've built. If anyone is familiar with this issue i would appreciate your opinion. In 2.4.XX all that was required was adding vga=792 to the kernel config params in grub.conf but on a couple occasions that has produced the ominous black screen of death May just be my kernel config... Allways keep a spare stable kernel installed while testing new setups ![Wink ](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ Compiling Gentoo since version 1.4

there are some issues with the framebuffer and the new kernel from what i know. look in the Tips and Tricks section. There is a whole bunch of docs there about that. _________________ "That which is overdesigned, too highly

I would just like to report that after trying again with today's 2.6 kernel snapshot and the correct configuration vesafb works great at 1024x768 with a 224 color penguin greeting me upon system startup If there's been some oops fixes in the 2.6.0-test11 kernel changelog that apply to this issue i didn't see them. It works great and tux does look pretty boss sittin on top of a 2.6-test11-bk12 kernel framebuffer screen ![Cool 8)](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) _________________ Compiling Gentoo since version 1.4

Using a hex value for the setting works better for me. |
