|
|
started installing gentoo from scratch and decided to go with the 2.6 test 11 kernel. the problem is that hotplug seem to have a problem with my network card (or pci in generel).
in boot up I get a lot of 'pci.agent ... no modules for pci slot.'
then i failes to bring up net.eth0.
don't hotplug like the new kernel? and why do the liveCD work (the one with 2.6 kernel)

what's your net card?
shouldn't matter - can do it without auto-probe |

I don't really like playing with the kernel config and load the modules manually so if I could get genkernel/hotplug to work it would really make my day. |

It works like a charm because its not a module. From what i understand, hotplug does not work for 2.6 kernels for the time being. They have a different extension .ko for 2.6 as opposed to .o for 2.4, and i would imagine a host of other differences that i am not aware of. Because you compiled it into your kernel it will automatically start with no problem when the kernel does. I hope this straightens out any future confusion on the matter. |
