If load shedding occurs during the installation or updating process do I need to reinstall gentoo? Can my gentoo installation go corrupt? Because gentoo installation takes a while. Gentoo installation it self is pretty small but it takes a while to compile . I think compilation would not use internet . Do I need to worry about load shedding ? _________________ tipt

tipt,
Welcome to Gentoo
Gentoo is no more susceptible to the power going out than any other distro.
It all depends on the underlying filesystem and what the filesystem is doing at the time.
If there is a build in progress, the content of the build location will not be removed.
If there is an install in progress - updating the live filesystem, it may not complete. That's the same for any write to disc with any distro at any time.
The exact effects depend on exactly when the power went out. However, a journaled filesystem should recover to a self consistent state at reboot by replaying the journal.
If emerge is in the middle of building say 100 packages and the power is lost during the last one, the first 99 are safe and installed.
Only the last package will need to be rebuilt. _________________ Regards,
