Has anybody successfully ran gamescope? If I enable either steam or lutris, no games will start.

Works fine for me.
Start with something simple, may be with glcube or smth just to see out put and see if it works with smth simple.

Works for me as well, though I don't use it much at all. Have you tried running from a terminal to see if it throws an error or useful message?

Same here. Unable to get gamescope working. Always failing with :

Failed to initialize Vulkan

I have a nvidia card, seems that gamescope/nvidia does not play well :
