From yesterday's announcement of Systemd 253:

We intend to remove support for split-usr (/usr mounted separately
during boot) and unmerged-usr (parallel directories /bin and
/usr/bin, /lib and /usr/lib, etc). This will happen in the second
half of 2023, in the first release that falls into that time window.

Is it time to switch to merged-usr now?

I think so.

And because this is a perfect place for another anouncement ... 8)

If someone think it will be a problem because having /usr on an extra partition they might be interested in this solution:
