I originally posted this in the unsupported software categary (I am trying to emerge sage from the sage-on-gentoo overlay). However, the package causing the trouble is in the main gentoo repository: sci-mathematics/giac.
I did an emerge world and the emerge failed at giac. the error is

I have tried emerge -C giac and then rememerging. no dice. No I have no giac since it won't emerge!
Any suggestions?

| That function appears to be defined in libgmp.so. I suggest you post the full build log, as Portage directed. That will allow us to examine the link line for the failed output file. |

Wow. What a program wgetpaste is. I just had a screen moment (a program like screen exists).

By the way, I am using sprunge because that is the only default service that seems to work out of the box. |

To fix this, try emerge -1 /usr/lib64/libecm.so as this library is broken |

ok. Thanks. I guess I wait (since I am too ignorant to solve the problem myself).
Because of this, depclean gives an error. how do I resolve it? |

| What exactly is the error? Does emerge --ask --verbose --depclean sci-mathematics/giac work? If it does, this should remove giac, which may allow a broad depclean to complete. |

I thought I replied to my own previous post.
The link by fedeliallalinea did provide a temporary solution: downgrade ftlk. So I did that, and it worked. Then depclean worked fine. |
