I recently bought a new graphic card nvidia geforce fx 5600 turbo...

And everything basically went downhill from there... Besides getting poor performance from my card, my X freezes... It freezes quite often.. I would say when I'm running at 100% CPU but it's not true... I can play some games and it won't freeze... but I can load a page in mozilla and it will... and it freezes with Unreal Tournament too( almost every time)...When it does, I am still able to move the mouse and the sound still works but I have to do a hard reset to unfreeze the thing...
I tried a new kernel(I'm using 2.4.23), new nvidia drivers (got 1.0.4496) and nothing helps...
I'm using openbox.. al this is running on a 1066 athlon thunderbird....

Anyone got any Ideas ?

try using nvidia's agp, or agpgart (well, try the one you're not using right now ;), also look if AGP Fast Writes are on (this can be troublesom). and remember, nvidia just works ;)

I have a kt7a-raid and I have quite similar problems. I suppose that the mainboard is just crap.

After I bought it (june 2001), I had to upgrade the bios for half a year to get Win2k to run.

I have a radeon9000pro graphics card. I don't play a lot under linux (just et), most time I use win98 which runs quite stable (more stable than you would expect it to, especially compared to linux :( ).
Sometimes my X freezes. I can move the mouse, but I cannot click anything, the keyboard is ignored. But I found out, it only happens when I use mozilla (or firefox) and enter long texts in a textarea (this one is close to be dangerous).

well, after almost three years of trouble I finally blame the mainboard. As soon as my budget allows it, I will get rid of it and buy something better.
